Meeting with guest speaker – “Gaming law and player protection”

? On 21.11.2023, another meeting of the Schola Legem Study Circle took place. This time in the formula of a meeting with an invited guest – Mr Paweł Dyrduł.

? Mr Paweł Dyrduł, M.Sc., brought us closer to the subject of computer games and player protection, referring to the identified challenges faced by the whole game market and the player-consumer at the same time.

? Specific problems (e.g. gold farming, grinding, lootboxes, pay-to-win) were listed, named and identified in both a legal (e.g. based on EU resolutions) and sociological context.

? Facts about the video game industry were quoted in order to improve participants’ understanding of the topic.

? It was said that current regulations on player protection can be found scattered over many pieces of legislation from different branches of law and that there is currently no codified act fully dedicated to player protection.

? The situation of minors and children playing video games was addressed, who are exposed to toxic phenomena in online games, which are made difficult to counteract by the sense of impunity of others online and anonymity.

? The issue of nicknames, pseudonyms and its legal protection in the cases of e-sportsmen and persons recognised in the video game industry was discussed.

? Circle members had the opportunity to actively participate in the meeting by asking questions and discussing the topics brought up.

? Thanks to the fact that most of the participants shared the gaming hobby, the participants were able to translate the discussed issues into their own experiences and raise their awareness on online threats and the need for legal solutions.

? Mr Paweł Dyrduł, Magister, apart from the perfectly prepared and conducted purely factual part, shared with the participants the advice to look for one’s niche in the law, where work can be combined with passion – nevertheless, it was also said to be careful during the classes, because first you need to know the basics ?

? The whole presentation was enriched with humorous aspects in the form of funny web images, which helped to further capture the attention of the participants and make it easier to remember the information provided ?

? The Schola Legem Scientific Circle is eternally grateful to Mr Magister Dyrduł for accepting the invitation to the meeting.

? We would also like to thank all participants for coming and actively participating! ?
