On 25.04.2024, the first debate meeting n full Oxford format of “Schola Legem” took place on the topic of animal rights.
Two debates were held during the meeting.
The topic of debate one: “The attribution of legal subjectivity to animals is necessary for the effective protection of their rights”.
Topic of debate two: “Ensuring effective protection of animal rights requires a full ban on scientific experiments on animals”.
The participants in the debate were also honoured by the presence of Professor Kaźmierczyk and Dr Lachner, who provided substantive support and were also on the jury evaluating the participants.
The Speakers for the debates were: Ms Paulina Pałach (debate 1 and debate 2), Ms Gabriela Wąż (debate 1), Mr Krzysztof Zieliński (debate 2).
The function of Secretary was performed by Mr Krzysztof Zieliński.
The participants of the debate showed great commitment and activity during the debate, and the substantive preparation itself was of the highest professional level.
Taking into account the scale of the meeting, the event was the largest so far among all debate meetings.
The factual load of the debate allowed the participants to significantly broaden their horizons in terms of knowledge on animal rights.
After the part with two debates, the President of the Academic Circle – Mr Krzysztof Zieliński, gave his own speech about animal rights in the world (e.g. in Austria, the Netherlands and China) and their philosophical background (in European philosophy – Christianity, Cartesianism, as well as Chinese philosophy – Taoism, Buddhism, Confucianism).
Also after the substantive meeting, an integration meeting took place at the Pancake House café in Krakow.
“Schola Legem” would like to thank all the participants for their excellent speeches, as well as Professor Kaźmierczyk and Dr Lachner for coming and helping to organise the debate.
